A Light in the Rain
The last bus into the valley left without you. At the edge of the dark cedar forest, an old ryokan emerges from the rain – only a single paper lantern still burns warmly above the threshold.
Pinned to the wooden post is a handwritten note: “No one is stranded here by chance. Carry this light to where the night weighs heaviest.” A wind chime rings from the garden; inside the house, a clock ticks softly.
